Today, the NJ Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee voted unanimously to release S2659. This bill reconstitutes the Public Health Council in the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services as an autonomous board with the power to issue public health regulations. An Executive Order in 2005 rescinded this authority.
In addtion, the legislation designates that representatives of several different health professions be appointed to the board by the Governor and leaders of both houses of the state legislature.
Dr. Drew Harris, NJPHI Chairman, spoke in support of the bill and submitted written testimony.
